If you are in a location on property with a lot of stairs or that may be a little more difficult for trick-or-treaters to get to, we encourage you to get together with your neighbors and set up a trunk-or-treat style station in the parking lot, on the sidewalk, or breezeway area. What to Do In and Around Tulsa Over Labor Day 2011
Labor Day weekend is here!. Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer, so why not cram as much fun as you can in last 4 days! Here are some ideas:
Take a Road Trip Down I-44
If you haven’t been to the OKC/Norman area in a while, now is a great time to do it! They have just opened a brand new outlet mall, The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City. It boasts a ton of new outlet stores like Coach, Nike, Saks Fifth Avenue, Brooks Brothers, and more! Definitely worth the drive itself.
While you’re there check out what’s new in Bricktown. There is a ton of shopping and dining options available.
If you’re feeling lucky head South on 44 to Norman and check out the Riverwind Casino. You will find tons of new slot games, and table games, as well as great food and an awesome hotel on property.
As you head back, stop off at Campus Corner in Norman for the best tacos you’ll find this side of Tijuana. The Fuzzy Taco Shop is open late night to feed hungry OU students for cheap, but you will love it too!
Go To the Movies
One way to beat the heat-Two new movies opening on Friday, September 2nd: Apollo 18 and Shark Night
Go On a Float Trip
Not everyone’s cup of tea, but seems to be a really popular thing to do around here. Sixty eight miles of crystal clear water rippling over flint rock down the Illinois River creates the perfect float trip. The Illinois is said to be the best canoe stream in the state. Experienced canoeists as well as the inexperienced enjoy this river as it winds by high bluffs, rocky islands, river birch and giant sycamore trees. Get more info at: http://www.shopoklahoma.com/illinoir.htm and http://www.travelok.com/article_page/illinois-river-float-and-camp-trips
Catch a Tulsa Drillers Baseball Game
The temps will be cooling down this weekend,s o it may be a good time to check out the Tulsa Drillers at ONEOK Field. There are games on the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th. Get game times and all the details on their website.
Find a Deal at the Tulsa Flea Market
For almost 40 years, the Tulsa Flea Market has been THE place for a unique shopping experience. They feature an eclectic array of antiques, collectibles, memorabilia, vintage items, records, furniture, crafts, jewelry, books, and much more. See what treasures you can find! Open Saturdays from 8-4pm at the Tulsa Fair Grounds.
Go to the Casino!
This is always my answer for “what to do”! Tulsa has three awesome casinos, so why not check them all out? The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, The Riverspirit Casino, and the Osage Million Dollar Elm all provide great gaming, food, and live entertainment.
Whatever you decide to do, have a safe and fun Holiday weekend!
Show Me the Money! Popular GMA Series Offers Great Suggestions for Finding Missing Cash
Everyone wants more money, right? Did you know the 50 states and the District of Columbia are currently holding at least $32 billion in unclaimed funds, just waiting to be reunited with
the rightful owners?
Good Morning America has an ongoing series called “Show Me the Money” where they offer tips to consumers for finding missing cash. There are simple searches you can do in ten minutes or less. Plus they’ve uncovered more unusual sources of unclaimed cash that few people know about. Check out their suggestions below:
Miscellaneous Money
If you are searching for things such as forgotten apartment security deposits, uncashed overtime checks, lost insurance refunds or abandoned safe deposit boxes, your first stop is the states. The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) has set up a free website at that will link you to the appropriate department in your state that holds the funds.
Missing Money
If you would like to search several states at once, you can do so at another free, though commercially run site called www.missingmoney.com. When you first search, you are prompted to enter your home state. Be sure to search again and this time choose “all states and provinces” on the drop down menu. One last thing: it’s not actually ALL states. On the site’s home page you can view a map of which states are and are not included. If you have lived in states that do not participate in this site, be sure to go back to Unclaimed.org and search those sites individually.
Unclaimed Savings Bonds
It’s easy for savings bonds to go unclaimed because they take 30 to 40 years to mature. That’s why the Treasury Department has set up a simple search website, available HERE, where you can find forgotten bonds by typing in your social security number. Certain bonds are not listed online and require a hand search. You can read about them at the same Treasury link.
Federal Tax Refunds
Everybody looks forward to getting an income tax refund check, but if yours didn’t arrive, what do you do? The IRS now provides a feature on its website. You can look up your missing check by entering the amount you are owed, plus your social security number.
Lost Life Insurance Policies
The proceeds of lost life insurance policies may turn up in your state search. If not, and you suspect you are the beneficiary of a loved one’s lost life insurance policy, you can hire a company called MIB Solutions to search for you. MIB is a private company that houses life insurance application information for much of the industry. It costs $75 to search. Go to www.policylocator.com for more information.
Failed Accounts In a Bank
If you didn’t collect your money when your bank went under, chances are your account was insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The good news, in that case, is that the FDIC is holding your money, and you can find it HERE.
Failed Accounts In a Credit Union
If your money was in a credit union as it failed, visit the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) to track down your money.
Misplaced Pensions
If your company still exists, or has been bought out, you need to approach the company directly. If you are owed a pension from a company that went under, there is a federal agency, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), that safeguards private pensions. You can track down your pension on the PBGC website.
Retirement MoneyThe Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), is the federal agency charged with
making sure retirement money is reunited with its rightful owners. The EBSA sometimes even sues to seize
retirement money. You can utilize the agency’s services by clicking
Lost 401(k)s
Sometimes when people leave a job, they leave behind a 401(k) as well. If the company goes out of business, that only compounds the confusion. Fortunately, companies that administer 401(k) plans have teamed up to create a search engine you can use to track down your 401(k).
Update On The Low Water Pressure On Property At Vista
We have received many calls today from residents regarding the low to no water pressure you are experiencing throughout the property. Here is an update and what we know at this time.
According to the City of Tulsa, a water valve was shut off by mistake at Vista sometime last night by City crews working to repair a break at another address nearby. Vista management or maintenance had no prior knowledge of this shut off and has been working with the City Water Department all day to get to the bottom of exactly what happened. Please be advised this is an error on the City’s end, which we have no control over.
This afternoon the City informed us that in order to turn the valve back on and restore water pressure to the property, a detection crew must come out to locate which valve it is. As of 4:00 pm we were told the detection crew was on the way and hopefully water would be fully restored sometime this evening. The City has assured us they are working as quickly as possible to correct the problem and we are their highest priority at this time.
Due to the high volume of calls and work orders regarding this problem, we ask that you check Facebook and your email for any new updates from us regarding the water. We also ask that you please refrain from placing new work orders about lack of water pressure as we are aware of the problem.
Thank you again for your cooperation and understanding. We will keep you posted.
Oklahoma Tax Free Weekend 2011 and Grand Opening of The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City
{5 Ways to Save the Most Money on Tax Free Weekend}
For Oklahoma, Tax Free Weekend begins August 5th. This weekend also marks the grand opening of The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City (http://www.facebook.com/TheOutletShoppesatOklahomaCity). Tax Free Weekend is like the ‘Black Friday’ of back to school shopping and I know many of you are already anticipating the crowds and the savings. Here’s a little extra for the MoneySavingQueen.com to help with that:
1. Strategize: Thing ahead and make a plan. I’m not a planner but for Tax Free Weekend, you have to make a plan to succeed. Just like we do with our matchups, plan your shopping around sales flyers and coupons. Bring family along so you can get your items quickly, remember, you will have long lines to deal with and hot sale items may sell out.
2. Find the Sales & Coupons: Call the stores you are going to (or thinking about going to) and ask about their Tax Free Weekend sales. Check their websites too! For coupons, you can do a few things…First, visit your store on Facebook. Many stores are posting coupons on their own facebook pages right now. Second, simply google. Google terms like ‘GAP printable coupon’ or ‘American Eagle printable coupon.’ Now, please realize there may not be a coupon available for your particular store but if there is, a simply google search could bring it up for you.
The best thing to do is sign up for store newsletters. Visit your favorite store directly and sign up for available newsletters to get your coupons. Ideally, this needed to be done a few weeks ago but some may send out coupons right away.
3. Don’t Overdo It: Don’t attempt to take over the city, there’s going to be a ton of people shopping that day so don’t stress about not making it to every store. Start with the stores you ‘need’ to go to first then, if there’s time or if you have any energy left, you can hit the others.
4. Know the Exclusions: This is IMPORTANT! Not everything is covered under the tax-free break. Check with your local tax commission (just google it) to find out the details for your area. You can find the Oklahoma rules and exclusions here. (Accessories and school supplies will not be tax free.)
5. Stock Up: IF you are matching up coupons and sales plus the tax free deal then these will likely be rock bottom prices for you and it would be worth stocking up the kids for the rest of the year. This is especially true if you are buying school uniforms which will be hard to find later in the year. If you’re shopping name brand no-sale and no-coupon items, you’ll likely find better deals later or online using coupon codes.
Is Tax Free Weekend the best time to shop? Well, it depends, if you are shopping sales and/or buying a lot of items then yes, you’ll likely save a bundle. However, if you are only buying a few things or can’t find your items on sale, then check out sites like RetailMeNot.com for online coupon codes.
